For members of the public and RWNZ members
looking for accommodation in Wellington and Auckland,
Rural Women New Zealand may have the solution for
you.
Honda House - Wellington
Honda House is situated beside Rural Women New Zealands Wellington headquarters in Hawkestone Street, Thorndon. It is owned and operated by our organisation as a Bed and Breakfast, and has nothing to do with Japanese cars!
The
building was bought through a bequest to Rural Women New Zealand from Dr Agnes Bennett OBE. She asked that it be
called Honda after her childhood home
in Sydney. Her father, a civil engineer, named the
Sydney house after a picturesque South American
village called Honda, which he visited on his travels.

Situated
close to Parliament, the Railway Station and Lambton
Quay and easy to find from the Southern Motorway
(exit at Hawkestone Street), Honda House is a popular
place to stay.
It is
used by both members and the public and provides
a friendly and relaxed environment.
Built in 1929,
the house contains many original features, including
stained glass windows, wood panelling, staircase
and an Art Deco bathroom. Guests have
access to an upstairs kitchen where they can prepare
meals, and a spacious TV lounge. Honda is also used
for seminars and meetings. Lunches catered on request.
The continental breakfast is reputedly one of the
best in Wellington.
You
will be warmly welcomed by Wendy Sun, Honda House's manager.
