RURAL WOMEN ALIVE!

No. 96 – 16 August 2010

RWNZ on TV

Jacky Stafford will be featured doing a cooking demonstration on the Good Morning TV show tomorrow morning (17 August), at 9.20am and again at 10.10am, cooking up a storm from ‘A Good Spread’.  We are sure she will do us proud.

RWNZ in the News

We have also featured in many news articles as a result of very successful cookbook launches branches have held around the country.  A favourite of mine was the Golden Bay Weekly write up following Pakawau branch’s launch.  We also had a double page spread in Saturday’s Dominion Post, including a photo of long time Pauatahanui member, Nancy Brown.

Our Patron, Lady Susan Satyanand also includes photos from our Wellington cookbook launch that she attended on her website.

A Good Spread - Reprint underway

We, and Random House, have temporarily sold out of A Good Spread, thanks to the fantastic efforts of members who have now sold 3700 copies!!  But, good news!  A reprint of a further 3000 copies is underway, and we expect to have more stock in early October in time for the International Day of Rural Women (15 October) and of course your Christmas gifts.

We are maintaining a spreadsheet of orders, so to ensure you don’t miss out, just email us at enquiries@ruralwomen.org.nz and we will add your order to the list.

Let’s Get Plastered for Breast Cancer

We are also awaiting supplies of breast plastering kits from overseas, and expect to have them available from the end of August.  Again please send your orders to enquiries@ruralwomen.org.nz and we will note your requirements and get these to you as soon as they arrive.

RWNZ Express

Many news items are included in the next RWNZ Express which should be with you within the next two to three weeks.  A calendar of upcoming events is also included below.  You should by now also have received the latest Rural Women magazine, our ‘outward facing’ publication.  If you have finished with your copy, why not leave it at your library/doctor’s surgery etc for others to find out more about Rural Women New Zealand?

Agri-Venture International Agricultural Exchange Association

International agricultural trainees are flocking to New Zealand for a ‘Kiwi’ farming experience, but AgriVenture is struggling to keep up with the demand.  The organization is urgently seeking farming families to meet the trainees due to arrive in NZ over the next two months.  The organization says the scheme is a great way for farmers to get an extra pair of hands and also learn about another culture and country, while giving someone the chance to learn about NZ agriculture and our way of life.  120 trainees are expected form UK, Europe, Canada and the USA.  They live with the family or accommodation provided by the hosts.  Trainees generally remain with a family for a minimum of four months, and an average of six.   The organization has been running since 1963 and is aimed at 18-30 year olds.  If you are interested in finding out more contact Robyn Baron on 0508 328000 or email nz@agriventure.com.
